The First Street Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition of paintings by Doretta Miller on January 1 2002. The show continues through January 19.

In a series of gouache paintings inspired by teaching and travel in the People's Republic of China Ms. Miller portrays the life of common people on the streets and in the markets and illustrates the impact of cultural and economic changes on everyday life. Themes related to the major subject are elaborated in detailed borders that relate the impact of Western ideas or Chinese traditions to activities of the subjects.

Doretta Miller is a Professor and former Chairperson of the Department of Art and Art History at Skidmore College. She studied at Ripon College, Northern Illinois University and Studio Art Centers International in Florence, Italy, and has taught art in Italy and China as well as at the secondary and college level in the United States. She has exhibited widely in invitational and juried shows and received prizes for both paintings and drawings. She is represented in collections including The Hyde Collection and private collections.
