The First Street Gallery is pleased to announce the opening of an exhibition of paintings and work on paper by Penny Kronengold on Tuesday, March 5. The show will continue through Saturday, March 23.

In these new works, swimmers await the moment of entry into the water, or are caught diving at the start of an event. Time and space are equally a part of these paintings. The artist developed many of the images from small drawings done on the pool deck of the Asphalt Green facility in New York City. Others are recalled from a swim meet at City College. Kronengold works for years with a subject. The possibilities afforded her by an infinite number of live models in action, and the metaphors of water, pace docks and diving blocks have inspired an ongoing exploration of this new theme.

Penny Kronengold has exhibited at the AIbright-Knox Member's Gallery, the Stamford Museum, the Trenton City Museum, and at the Richard Stockton Art Gallery. Her collectors include Mobil Oil Corporation, MCI Telecommunications and the Printmaking Workshop. Her paintings and sculpture have been reproduced in Tikkun and American Craft. Most recently, her 1998 First Street exhibition was reviewed by Jed Perl in the January 25, 1999 issue of The New Republic.

On Thursday, March 7, the gallery will remain open till 8 pm.
